York Writers

We are a group of writers, who meet FOR writers, in the historic English city of York.

Our members range from aspiring novelists and many-times-published writers of short stories and poetry, to those just getting started as writers. We aim to provide encouragement, support and assistance for writers at all levels to improve their craft, to get published, and to get satisfaction and pleasure from what they write.

We are interested in all forms of writing: fiction and non-fiction, poetry and scripts, novels and short stories, for both adults and children.

Given concerns about the increased community transmission/virulence of COVID-19, after careful consideration the committee of York Writers has decided to postpone Literary Allsorts until Thursday 12 November (still at the Basement, City Screen). York Writers thanks all ticket holders for their support. Tickets will be valid for the new date with the option of a no-quibble refund if November 12th clashes with other preferences.

Where to find us

NOTE: due to current concerns about COVID-19, York Writers has suspended its meetings until further  notice.

York Writers usually meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month in a private room at the Trafalgar Bay public house, Nunnery Lane, York YO23 1AB. Meetings start at 8 pm and usually finish around 10 pm.

Meetings alternate between manuscript evenings, which are focused on a sharing of creative work, and themed sessions, often led by a guest speaker. We welcome new members.

Newcomers and visitors to the group are admitted to all our meetings. We currently ask for a £2.50 meeting fee for guests and visitors.
